It usually starts with a feeling you remember. A time when getting dressed was easier ~ when things fit, when you felt like yourself. And somewhere along the way, you connected that feeling to a number. A size. A weight on the scale.

I get it. I've been through pregnancy weight gain, divorce weight loss, menopause weight gain, cancer treatment weight loss. It goes up and down, and even I have to catch myself waiting for the "right" moment to feel good in my clothes.

When I work with clients and we go into their closets, there are almost always multiple size ranges hanging there. And nobody wants to talk about it ~ it's treated like a secret, like something to be ashamed of.

When we're not feeling great, we reach for what matches where we're at ~ a little safer, a little more covered, just get through the day energy. And then we wonder why we feel stuck. Why nothing feels exciting. Why we're bored with our clothes but don't want to buy anything new.

So we wait. And while we're waiting, we're still getting dressed every day ~ in clothes that don't reflect us at all.

For a lot of women, especially through perimenopause and menopause, that's not a short window. That can be years of feeling like nothing quite fits and nothing quite works.

What Actually Changes When You Stop Waiting?

At some point, something shifts. You get tired ~ really tired ~ of standing in front of your closet and feeling nothing. And you decide: I don't care what size I have to buy. I just want to feel good.

That's the moment everything changes. Not because your body changed overnight ~ but because you stopped waiting for someday.

When you go out and find pieces that actually fit you well, in colours that look great on you, in styles that work with your body as it is right now ~ you feel better. Your mood lifts. That nasty internal voice gets quieter. And you glow, genuinely, from head to toe.

Is Style a Reward You Have to Earn?

This is the part I don't think we talk about enough: style is not a reward for getting somewhere. It's not something you earn by hitting a goal weight or dropping a size. It's available to you right now, exactly as you are.

There is no version of punishing yourself every single day in clothes that don't feel good that is worth it.

You're still getting dressed every day. It might as well feel like you.
